What we have been doing in Texas

Arlington needs bike lanes.

Even when it's cold..we ride!

Owen shows his joy at the City Hall meeting.
We've been to two so far, there is an organization called BikeFriendlyArlington, mostly University of Texas at Arlington students, attempting to promote bike lanes and off road trails. This city is so backwards as far as alternative transportation- no city bus-no bike lanes- I was glad to find someone trying to do something.
Thru this group I met a few friends, found a few links, and I'm now involved in a community garden, a river cleanup, and some locally grown food initiatives.
WORK
I had a per-diem job at Las Colinas Medical Center lined up when I got here. Unfortunatly I got here 1 day too late for the January orientation so I had to wait a month. In the meantime I signed on with PSA, a home healthcare company that I had worked with before. Turns out the patients I got were basically babysitting with lame-ass parents who didn't want to do anything. Waaaayyyy different than the case I worked in Washington, with a Mom who wanted to do all she could and loved her baby, who actually needed home health care, unlike these kids.
Vent over/ now I've started at Las Colinas, Baylor posts a FT job, which I apply for and get. Then Las Colinas offers me a FT job.
Las Colinas has a level 2 nursery. Baylor has a level 3a. I'm used to level 3b or 4.
PRO- Las Colinas- dayshift. DAYSHIFT. My family would love this!! Also- Owned by HCA who also owns a level 3 NICU facility 2 miles from my house. I could possibly work there later.
CONS- Waaaaay less acuity, may be very boring. A "for profit" hospital. Although, if I am in school this year, boring might be good.
Baylor- PROS- some acuity, good community reputation.
CONS- not enough acuity, they do 28w and above, and send out surgeries.
Think I'm going to go with the Las Colinas FT gig. If Cooks or Children's Dallas has a per-diem that's my acuity level wish.
Enough for tonight.

Love the update! Think of you so often! The unit at TG is kind of crazy these days - sad to hear Suzanne, Courtney & Dana are all moving on. Wish you the best & thank you for everything. You are such a great friend, Jen!
